In this large copper, everything is reduced to the essential: some tables to indicate a passage, scaffolding planted in the void and two characters in the distance. This unusual scenography - the wooden constructions appear very precarious - is not created to arouse a feeling of vertigo but to focus our attention on the background scene: the two characters, unable to meet and talk to each other, greet each other. The effort to make the gesture attracts our attention and surprises us. A great challenge also for the printer who has to make the background in absolute white, this engraving is one of the most representative in the author's chalcographic corpus.
