n. 852 Under the tyrannical eye

Is it to avoid his gaze that the figure is shown in profile? It is the image of a despot emerging from the deep night and offers us disturbing details: the line of his nose—the nostrils flared with displeasure—the haughty expression of his mouth and his menacing eye... On his head, a helmet, from which the victims of his power emerge, thrusts forward, as an extension of his profile, the screaming head of a horse. Dressed like an ancient tyrant, this figure is also a product of our time. Without any benevolence, he represents someone who, out of caprice or selfishness, abuses his authority and uses force (and fear) to dominate us.
