n. 734 The momentum

The creative inspiration of this etching was born in Venice, in the church of San Zanipolo, a vast sanctuary where the glories of the Serenissima rest. The horizontal format of the copper plate develops a vertical architecture ; the sky, reduced to a white square at the top, becomes the focal point where all the directions converge, thus creating a dizzying perspective. If the composition initially attracts our gaze, it is the details that reveal the deepest images. In a path that goes from one floor to another and through a series of loggias, monuments and altars, the eye will see emerge « the human shadows ». A chance to take flight to an imaginary world.
