n.531 The poet ornithologist

The young man, standing at the foot of the wall, observes a bird; he introduces us to a silent atmosphere. The whole scene appears calm, without apparent movement. While the bird doesn't appear to be the central element of the scene, the vegetation around it is formed by a richly detailed outline. Without a clearly established order, nature plays with the wall in a pleasant harmony. Motionless in his contemplation, the ornithologist appears to us as both a man of science and a poet, sensitive to the world around him. In this engraving, where nothing disturbs us, life flows serenely.
