This small etching appears singular and questions us. What is this man doing on the last step of a staircase, alone in front of the void? The title already provides us with the answer, the engraved work is a metaphor for loneliness; here is represented the condition of a person who has chosen to be alone. Away from others, withdrawn from the world, man is immersed in his own thoughts and confronted with the emptiness that surrounds him. The etching is delicate and highlights the gradient light and the silhouette of the solitaire.
