n. 525 Limes

Of this engraving, made in 2006 to enrich the verses of the poet Anna Cascella Luciani ("Finis terrae" edition, I Quaderni dell'Alba series), a small suite of fifteen copies was printed on a bible paper for print lovers. At the end of the run, the copper was biffed.
The Latin term LIMES evokes the distant borders of the Roman Empire but more generally the extreme limits of a country. Here copper refers us to the image of a landscape in perspective, out of time and open to the unknown. The details are accurate and made precious by the warm atmosphere of the colored background. An abyss separates two distinct realities, on one side a road and two walls invaded by vegetation and on the other, the "terra incognita". The vast plain that can be glimpsed appears lifeless, as if nature had a horror of emptiness yet, the light of this endless world awakens matter and manages to transmit emotions. Arriving at the threshold of the limes, the author invites us to overcome our hesitations and embark on an imaginary journey.
